I’m good on +5vdc logic to the LCD, but the -15vdc that should be on pin 15 of the ribbon connector is reading about 0.2vdc. Next step was making sure I see pulses on 14D (hex inverter) at pins 2 and 7. I see both, so it suggests I swap transistor Q29. I’m going to eyeball any caps and resistors in the vicinity, though, that the guide might not suggest considering their age.

The tech guide is extensive with pretty rich descriptions of all operations of every subsystem. I was getting my head around the cluster of capacitors, resistors, diodes and hex inverters that generate the -15v when I found the nice troubleshooting flow charts at the end of the guide.

Since last release of Quicktake for Apple II, I’ve added:

• thumbnail support for Quicktake 200
• JPEG YH1V1 decoding
• RADC decoding of 768x512 images

Compared to the last release, these three things take -3584 bytes (minus 3.5kB) on disk, and -1551 bytes (minus 1.5kB) in memory.

I’m quite sure it’s just the display, too, because I know the key sequence to get into the system menu and operate the tape drive. That all works every time… so I think it’s working but is essentially headless thanks to the display not coming on any more.

I suspect many people who even get the nextcube reference in the first place will remember that time that simson garfinkel burned the case of one to see what would happen (they’re made of magnesium) but iirc they actually got next to give them a spare case, no actual workstations were harmed
